grilled some wings this weekend

beerorkid | July 25, 2011

IMAG0449

I enjoy a good wing every now and then, but it is usually a big hassle to make them and it stinks up the house with the oil. I have resorted to frying outside, but still it is a lot of work. I decided to give just grilling the wings a try. We do not grill chicken on the bone often, so I was a bit hesitant, but it worked out great.

I coated the raw wings in some melted butter, cayenne pepper, and franks original sauce and put them on a low heat grill. I turned them often and added more sauce to them by moving them to a bowl and stirring the sauce to coat. They were not as crispy as a fried wing, but the smoky flavor from the grease hitting the grill rocks added a nice touch. I enjoyed them so much I did another batch the next day. It was much easier than frying them and I will go with this method from now on.

caramel bugles are awesome

beerorkid |

IMAG0447

My friend Heather mentioned how awesome Bugles were. I mentioned that they go stale after being exposed to air for more than 30 seconds. She said they do not do that anymore and I should give them another shot. I put it on the list and Theresa grabbed some regular and caramel bugles. I finished off the regular ones in about 2 weeks and was sad when they were gone. I figured the caramel ones were for her, but I opened them up and nomed a handfull. I started to get all light headed and hearing twinkling. I grabbed some more and when I opened my mouth and a rainbow shot out of my mouth. I closed my mouth to keep the rainbow in, but then it started leaking out my ears. They are that good. I almost downed the whole sack last night. I just could not stop. So sweet and salty. Thunky was interested in them too. Give them a try sometime.

Picked up some silicone molds and tried a few mixes. The ones with the greek yogurt are so creamy. Mixing in jello makes them softer. I have only had a couple of them, but I will be making lots more.

and so it begins

Daniels started selling corn at the farmers market today. The ears are small, but they threw in extra to make up for it. I attached the wagon to the bike and we hit them early. Got 4 dozen. I am excited to try the new Lee’s corn cutter.

IMAG0422

Theresa has gotten the chocolate covered ones before, but when I saw birthday cake flavored, blue frosting core, white chocolate dipped, and sprinkles I had to get them. They are magical. So dangerous. Just wow

fruit haul is sorta weak this year

beerorkid |

IMAG0370

I ate 1.5 strawberries, and I hope to get 9 raspberries. The blueberry bush got weed whacked :( That raspberry bush fought so hard for the first year, the 2nd year it put out one shoot, this year it put off 4-5 shoots and I am getting 2 clusters of berries off last years. The pic below some marmot ate half of it, but I got the other half. The pic above was my second one. It was amazing.

IMAG0350

We are gonna let it live till next year if we can dig it out. I think it is time to start over on that area and all the other areas around the garage.

Trader Joe’s Gorditas

beerorkid |

IMAG0315

Not sure why they call them gorditas, cuz they are pupusas if you ask me. The filling was cheese and refried beans and they were not bad. There were cooking instructions for microwave, oven, and stove top. I went the stove top route because I wanted them to get browned a bit, but they did not want to brown for me. 2 of them is plenty. I sill like the local ones at El Ranchero better though.

Trader Joe’s soft peanut brittle

beerorkid |

IMAG0180

Holy cow these things are awesome. Trader Joes soft peanut brittle tastes just like one of my fave candies, Atkinson peanut butter bars, but it covered in chocolate. That is going on the every time list.

beggur? A burger with an egg center

beerorkid |

beggur

I have never tried a burger with a fried egg on top, and I am not sure I want to try one, but this is a neat way to do it. They cut a hole in the middle of the burger and cook the egg in the hole.
