ritz crackerfulls

beerorkid | July 25, 2011

IMAG0171

Since I am getting all old and stuff I have resorted to trying to relive my youth through junk food. I have enjoyed some handi snacks lately. Oh man they are so good. It comes down to the few micro grams of cheese you get with the 4 crackers. I normally just put a little bit of the magical cheese on the first 3 crackers and then spread most of the cheezy goop on the last cracker. About two weeks ago I got a pack that was filled with the leavings of many cracker friends. it was all buttery dust and salt. I figured I could recreate the same experience by sprinkling salt on the crackers and cheese to recreate that magical pack, but instead I just had a moment of self reflection and cried in the corner of the pantry.

After I regained some dignity I set out to find more than a few micrograms of that cheese type product. I have not seen a jar of it anywhere, but then remembered the spray cheese in a can. I rushed to the store and grabbed a can of the spray cheese and some club crackers. My good bud Travis was working the express lane and he rung me through. My attempts at non checkout personal communications fell flat. Travis, one of these days I will break through your wall of professional conduct. When I got home I set to make my own handy snack, but it was not even close. I had fond memories of that spray cheese, but it completely failed to please, it is not the magic cheese.

Theresa grabbed these Ritz Crackerfuls and I was eager to eat gourmet junk food. They classed it up good with individual packaging with the cardboard tray. The crackers had a fancy design and a hit of extra flavor sort of like a sociable cracker. The cheese was the same flavor of the magic handi snack cheese, but it was thicker and fluffy like it was filled with air. I pulled the sammich apart like an oreo and scraped the cheese product onto 1/2 of one cracker so I could get a big serving of cheese fluff and minimal cracker. It was good.

Magnum ice cream bars

IMAG0169

I read about these bars on reddit. A guy wanted to get some for his uncle’s birthday and the Magnum company got involved, sent him some, and stated that they would be sold in the US and Canadia this year. Well they are finally here. They are pretty freaking rad. The ice cream is super light and fluffy with great vanilla flavor. The chocolate shell is darn good as well. They have them at Hy-Vee, but were out of the double caramel.

Silky vanilla bean ice cream enrobed in a luscious chocolatey coating, rich caramel sauce, and thick Belgian milk chocolate

ORGANIC Batter Blaster: cancakes

beerorkid | April 14, 2011

IMAG0096

ORGANIC batter Blaster is the new craze sweeping the nation and I got caught in the wave. We actually headed out to the deep south Super Target and battled through crowds of uber tanned, designer coffee drinking, botoxed, highlighted, and manicured Jersey shore women in tapout shirts to grab a can of this located next to the eggs.

Nothing screams ORGANIC more than being dispensed from a pressurized can. I was expecting for the batter to come out fluffy and almost like whipped cream, but it was pretty batter like and spread out evenly on the cooking surface. I am not too skilled on actually cooking pancakes and had a few not turn out all that well, but eventually got the temp right and they turned out pretty decent. the edges got a little crunchy which seemed strange, but I am guessing there is a good amount of sugar in the mix. For ease of use this product is awesome, and that is the reason i would buy it again. Squirt and then run the tip under water to rinse. no measuring, mixing, and then having to clean up bowls and the other assorted hassles.

Hershey’s Drops

beerorkid | January 27, 2011

Have you ever seen the Mythbusters where they polish a turd? I think I watched part of it and remember the walrus looking one used some actual polish and the albino looking one was all like that is not fair. Might be the other way around. What I am getting at is that I would eat these hershey’s drops than a polished turd, but man do they look alike.

I am currently having my lawyer friend look into the whole “no candy shell – no mess” claim. There is something going on with these. There is at least a slight wax or something on them to get them so shiny and smooth. They remind me of really big milk duds, which have pretty much the same shiny “shell”. FYI: I am not talking about the times where you buy a box of milk duds and they have all melted into a glob in the bottom of the box. When it gets in your mouth you can feel your mouth juices tearing down the “shell” of these drops, but that only lasts a second or so and you at home with the familiar hershey’s milk chocolate.

The candy blog has more info and it seems they have the cookies and cream variety out as well.

Trader Joe’s chicken enchiladas

beerorkid | January 6, 2011

We are working our way through a TJ’s gift card and have found some awesome stuff. Freeze dried strawberries are amazing. Picked up 5 bags last night. No more candy at work is the plan. Theresa found some chocolate crossants that she loves. Trying to find gems in the frozen section.

Grabbed some chicken enchiladas and gave them a test at home. From the package I figured there were a few in there, but it was just two in a microwavable bowl. After 6 minutes I let them rest. The flavor was pretty good and the chunks of peppers were a nice touch, but overall they were mushy and just decent. I guess there was no reason to think they would be spectacular at so cheap.

Finally done with the strawberry harvest

beerorkid | July 7, 2010

IMG_0078

Our little patch of 4 plants absolutely exploded. They are so crammed together and we got weeks worth of berries. To the point were we were throwing them out and gave up on picking them. We could of made preserves or something like that, but I figured if I blended them up and froze them into cubes I could enjoy home grown strawberries for months to come. They work and taste great. No need to add sugar at all. We are going to cut them back big time for next year. Might set up another patch too. They are so good right off the vine.

chompasaur local food blog is a go

beerorkid | July 1, 2010

chompasaur

Chompasaur.us started in a SCS IRC discussion I believe. I guess I was not around that time. It is a few of us folk who eat food, a few who make food, and folks who find articles about food. I am guessing if you want you can post on there too.

I hear you saying, butt Bork, you already have your critically acclaimed food blog memakefood, why spread yourself so thin…. what if it hurts your award winning blog? Fear not. I will post the same crap on all three sites because I am a web posting whore ;)
